Worth checking before you decide anything.
- EPF from 55: KWSP says your savings move into one account (Akaun 55) that you can withdraw in full. This counts all of it as available from 55. Please confirm with KWSP for your own case.
- If you give up your PR, you can take out all of your CPF, Medisave included. CPF's closure form says you withdraw "all the monies standing to my credit in the CPF". If you keep your PR, CPF stays locked and Medisave can't be used as cash.
- CPF's Full Retirement Sum (S$220,400) and the monthly payout it buys from age 65 (about S$1,780) are estimates. They only affect the "Keep my PR" answer.

Assumptions you can change
In Malaysia, since that's where you'll spend. 2.5% is a sample, not a forecast. Malaysia's statistics department (DOSM) publishes the real figure.
Before inflation. What your funds or shares might earn on average.
The yearly EPF dividend, before inflation. Check KWSP for recent years.
A blend: Ordinary pays 2.5% and Special 4%, with a little extra on small balances.
This is the "safe withdrawal rate". 3.5% means S$35,000 a year for every S$1 million saved. A lower number is safer if you'll be retired for a long time.
How this is worked out
- Until your EPF is available at 55, only your own savings and investments pay your bills. We work out what those years cost.
- From 55 your EPF helps, so what it would be worth then comes off what you need.
- While you work, what goes into your EPF each month keeps growing it until you stop.
- You can stop at the first age where what you'd have covers what you'd need. The chart shows this for every age: where the solid line is above the dashed one, you have enough.
- Everything is in today's money, so rising prices are already taken out.
- If you keep your PR, CPF stays locked. At 55 what's above the Full Retirement Sum comes out and the rest pays monthly from 65. If you give it up, you take all of it out the day you stop, Medisave included.
