Your plan

RMEverything: rent, food, travel. Include any mortgage or loan payment you'll still have.

Your money

S$Bank savings, fixed deposits, shares, funds. Not your home, EPF or CPF.
S$To those savings and investments, after your bills.
RMYour Malaysian EPF balance. Put 0 if you don't have one.

Worth checking before you decide anything.
  • EPF from 55: KWSP says your savings move into one account (Akaun 55) that you can withdraw in full. This counts all of it as available from 55. Please confirm with KWSP for your own case.

Assumptions you can change
In Malaysia, since that's where you'll spend. 2.5% is a sample, not a forecast. Malaysia's statistics department (DOSM) publishes the real figure.
Before inflation. What your funds or shares might earn on average.
The yearly EPF dividend, before inflation. Check KWSP for recent years.
This is the "safe withdrawal rate". 3.5% means S$35,000 a year for every S$1 million saved. A lower number is safer if you'll be retired for a long time.
How this is worked out
  1. Until your EPF is available at 55, only your own savings and investments pay your bills. We work out what those years cost.
  2. From 55 your EPF helps, so what it would be worth then comes off what you need.
  3. You can stop at the first age where what you'd have covers what you'd need. The chart shows this for every age: where the solid line is above the dashed one, you have enough.
  4. Everything is in today's money, so rising prices are already taken out.
Where the numbers come from
Estimates only. Not financial advice. Your numbers stay in your browser and are remembered on this device, and Reset clears them. A link you copy contains your numbers, so share it only with people you trust. The only request this page makes is for the exchange rate.
